10 Super Awesome Gatecrashing Games for Grooms

Have you heard the recent news of a wedding gone wrong and called off just because the groom and his groomsmen (aka heng dais) disagreed to play the gatecrashing games arranged by the bridesmaids (aka ji muis)? In the past, marriages were pre-arranged by parents, thus the games were more of an icebreaker for the groom and bride who were strangers to warm up towards each other on their first night.

As time passed, the pre-arranged marriage is rarely practiced among Chinese community (phewww), but the games tradition continues. To make the occasion more light-hearted, we have compiled these 10 great ideas according to four themes for you – take your pick! After all, we want to see true love – and admittedly the red packet too. As the saying goes, no money, no honey…

Food Battle

1. Tongue Twisters

That's right. Find a list of tongue twisters and get each of the guys to try saying them while chewing a mouth full of biscuits. Can be really funny! Some of the popular choices: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers, I wish to wish the wish you wish to wish, how much wood could Chuck Woods' woodchuck chuck and so on.

Tongue Twister in Chinese is even funnier!

2. Table MADner

Prepare some utensils such as long chopsticks, toothpicks, or a spatula etc and food that are hard to eat with the utensils. Write them down on small pieces of paper and put them into 2 separate boxes. Then, get the groom and his heng dais to draw a utensil and a food, finish the food using the utensils they picked. Imagine toothpicks and peanuts, long chopsticks with ice J

Eating with the wrong utensils proved a guy's determination

3. The Price is Right
Prepare some ready-to-eat food, for example a small pack of carrots, a 1L box of milk, a pack of biscuits etc. Split the groom and his groomsmen into 2 groups and get them to guess the price for each item. Team with the closest price value will win and the losing team will have to finish the food.

This is what will happen when you lose...

GOTCHA

4. Copy from Me

Line up the guys on one side; with the first and second groomsmen standing back to back. The first groomsman will be given an action (e.g. riding a roller coaster, washing clothes, taking wedding photographs) written on a piece of paper to act out without making any sound to the second groomsman, and so on. If the groom fails to get the right answer, the game will restart all over again!

We really need some comical guys here who are good
 in impersonation

5. Light as a Feather

Instruct the group to jump continuously on a skipping rope while hugging each other. They can stop once the camera snaps a photo of them – but who knows when the bridesmaids will click on the button!
Alternatively they can have free jumps without rope -
but still hugging each other

6. Face Off

How close are you with your buddies?

The groomsmen are the groom’s best buddies – or are they? Get one of the guys as the model, and one will be the makeup artist. The makeup artist has 1 minute to put makeup on his model, but he must be blindfolded so he has to trust on the directions given by the other heng dais such as “slightly on your right, higher, lower” etc. You'll need makeup: lipstick, loose powder and blush. Stay away from things that could injure an eye, such as eye shadow and mascara.

7. Yoga Horror

Show some pictures of partner yoga poses, let the groom and his groomsmen choose three of them and re-enact the poses, for 1 minute. Sounds easy? Try and you’ll know!
Yoga poses are always a gatecrash favourite!
All about Her

8. What’s in the Box?

Put several favourite items of the bride into a wrapped box (a recycled cardboard will do), preferably small items such as the first anniversary ring, a keychain, or a phone accessory. The groomsmen will take turns to put their hand into the mystery box and describe each item to the groom who will make a guess. Well, make sure your heng dais are descriptive and adjectives-rich.

Grooms, do you still remember what you have given to
her as gifts?

 9. Is That Hers?

Mix a few photos of different hands. With the help of his groomsmen, the groom has to guess which is the hand of his bride. Dear grooms, are you nervous?

10. Password

And, how well do you know your bride?

This can be the last game before the group is allowed to enter. Prepare a list of questions about the bride to ask the GROOMSMEN (yes, not the groom!), for example: When is her birth date, what is her favourite song, when the couple had their first date etc. The groom has to make his best without making sounds to tip the answer to the heng dais, but more importantly he has to know her well.

Girls can put in a lot of effort to set up the door games, so dear grooms and the groomsmen, be well prepared! But this can be time to trigger the sweet and romantic memory of the couple too, like when they see the first anniversary ring.

Right, maybe we can give you some ideas for your first anniversary gift too?

What The Colours in Wedding Mean

There are so so many things to consider when preparing for a wedding, such as budget, venue, date, number of guests, theme etc. We also consider colours. They are always part of the theme, creating an instant air of love and joy on your big day.

Now lovebirds, if you are as curious as us, have you ever wonder other than enriching the theme, what do wedding colours tell about you?

White
White is the purest colour of all, and easily shows perfection and simplicity in marriage. Couples are likely to pursue peace and shared future together.

All-white wedding reception is simple but we feel outstanding

Ivory
Close sibling to the colour white, ivory is commonly regarded as creamy white, thus we feel richer and fuller to see a bride in ivory wedding gown. Ivory is more complement, which psychologically more calming and genuine. You look elegantly traditional, but you are definitely loyal to your marriage.

Ivory adds a  richer element in a wedding reception, just like you

Black
Black does not necessary dull out your wedding, though it looks rather conventional and serious. On a positive side, black is really elegant and cool. Tips: Try to be sexy and fun from time to time to colour up your marriage.

Black wedding reception is elegant, and perhaps fun too?

Yellow
What a daring and creative colour to choose from! Going to your wedding sounds happy enough, no doubt fun and lively factors will keep your marriage as sweet as ever.

We agree it looks happier here when yellow is themed on your wedding day

Orange
It is rather exciting to see an orange theme in wedding, for you to display friendly and party-going characters in your social life. There’s definitely nothing to stop you from trying and exploring, so marriage life will be another adventure that is full of surprises.

Orange theme is already an excitement in your wedding

Red
Red is auspicious in Chinese wedding, and red is the sharpest colour to spice up your wedding. Red warms people, making you more appealing and confident towards others. Your marriage will be bright with such vibrant enthusiasm for life.

Red is always a popular theme in Chinese wedding

Pink
Pink is commonly feminine, which relates it to soft and loving. The aura of romance warms everybody’s heart in wedding, and continues throughout your marriage.

Pink naturally adds a touch of romance during wedding reception

Turquoise

This colour’s mood is as big as an ocean; and it varies from happiness to high-spirited. Turquoise also symbolizes healing, so your marriage will be supporting towards each other.

The air is full of bliss, we can't wait to attend your wedding!

Purple
Purple creates a mood of fantasy and uniqueness, which is why we feel the mixed sensation of admiration and love towards you. We bet that’s how you feel towards your life partner too.

Not only we admire you, we admired your choice too

Green

Green is a colour of nature, and by it, brings a feeling of unity and harmony. That’s the key to everlasting marriage, isn’t it?

Green wedding reception resembles you, finally finding each other and unite

Silver
A very synonym colour to sophistication and glamour, silver spreads an air of honour in your wedding. You are more than ready to focus on your marriage.

Silver theme does well to add sophistication to you and your big day

Gold
Gold is definitely the richest colour that shows luxury and confidence. Gold will create a mood of elegance, affluence and luxury. Your marriage already begins to look optimistic.

The confidence in you is undeniable when we walk into your gold theme reception

How To Make Her Proposes To You

How many times have you heard of a passionate story about a guy who successfully proposed to a girl, and how the girl cried happy tears? Then, they live happily ever after… BUT, lo and behold, have you ever heard of a successful story about a girl who proposed to her man? Why not? You might be a Romeo, and you are readily committed to kneel down before her. But in a world of equality now, perhaps your girl might enjoy asking for your hands instead?

Well guys, if you feel this is Mission Impossible, we have some ideas for you.

1. Do not be shy to “feel”
Just as you’d like her to pay for the bill once in a while, you have to make it bold. But rather than saying it flat like “Can you propose to me?” share your thought to her how you feel towards this big step, “Honey, I used to imagine how romantic and unbelievable it will be if the woman I love kneels down and proposes to me. I can feel how deep her love for me.” All girls love to feel, and feel important of her presence in your life.

"Feel" is always the powerful word

2. Beat the troll

We dare you to send her this:
I went to doc today. He asked what my wish is if I could have the last one. I told him I want to get married and be with my love forever.

Do not reply her message afterwards for an hour so. We bet she will be sure blasting your chat with worries, or anger. (or both) Wait till she suggests “Why don’t we get married?” and whoosh! You can tell her “Yes, I accept, honey. The doc will be just as happy as he told me I have good health report.”

You probably will get reprimanded, but you scored.

Waiting for a yes

3. Reenact “Runaway Bride”

Whoops… no run no run. All we ever intend is that you watch “Runaway Bride” again and again with her (if she hasn’t). For a girl, this hit romance is not about Julia Roberts fleeing from a wedding thrice, but rather how she eventually found the courage to propose to the man she truly loved and who loved her equally. She just knew when to save the best.

4. Find a “bold” her

Yes, we are serious. If you want the easiest way of being proposed, maybe you should look for a vocal girl like Kristen Bell (yeah, she tweeted her proposal to boyfriend, and she got a yes even if you don’t feel romantic) who can’t wait to be your wife. She is unlikely to hesitate, and with little encouragement from your attention, might kneel down anytime with a ring.

She is your right girl, but are you the right man she will propose to?

Ok, be real. Number 1, 2, 3 and 4 might not work. In that case let us suggest you to stick back to the old rule; buy a ring now and kneel down instead. We know you are honestly generous, and we won’t stop you from buying one with a shiny stone. But you are probably not too sure of her liking or size, or even your own budget.

Consider our vast range of Wah Chan’s proposal rings.

4 Romantic Movie Wedding Locations to Say “Yes, I do

*Drum Roll* We’ve got 3 things to tell you today. First, our blog is finally having a facelift with more interactive contents. Second, check out our blog from time to time as we bring you various posts from wedding to lifestyle and fashion.

And third, to heat up this passionate wedding season, let’s begin with these 4 great destinations we saw in some hit romance movies. Apart from the lovey-dovey story plots and stunning faces, these places could be splendid for a successful “Yes, I do!”

In the famous comedy romance American Wedding, Jim and Michelle eventually got married and danced at Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay along the coast, overlooking the rich California Ocean. Charmed with sweeping valley, proud sunset, and pure blue sky above, the “yes I do” spell works.

Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay at Northern California is not disappointing at all, isn’t it?

Ok, Elizabeth and Mr Darcy weren’t married here in Pride and Prejudice, but who would forget the handsome, stone mansion Chatsworth House where the arrogant hero resides and eventually met her? We don’t want to sound eccentrically romantic, but set on expansive parkland and rich coloured garden, every single corner in Chatsworth House is blossoming with love.

Chatsworth House at Derbyshire, England is rich in colours

“I will follow you high and low”, so Mamma Mia said. When Sophie was married off on Agios Ioannis, this little church suddenly becomes a thrilling sensation, thanks to the popular ABBA songs and lively movie. Standing high on top of this barren sea rock at Skopelos, the 202 steps Angios Ioannis is extremely tiny and quiet; perhaps that fits your simple, offbeat wedding theme?

The Church of Agios Ioannis, or Saint John on the Castle

A stately home for wedding? Yes for unusual setting that sparks unlimited photo takings! In the classic love comedy movie, Notting Hill, Anna and Will met each other at Kenwood House, London. Here, romantic touch is everywhere, so perhaps some of your guests will follow the same road after you?

So guys, we have brought you over the horizon for some unbeatable movie wedding destinations. You do wish to exchange your vows here, don’t you? We believe that choosing the right place is the first step for a successful marriage, so is a pair of wedding bands. The bands are not only a physical symbol of matching size and style, but also an everlasting promise between two hearts. If you have not get one yet, maybe we can suggest you some of our best ring selections?
